making the yoga fit your needs.

Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self
— The Bhagavad Gita

what to expect in a yoga therapy appointment.

Crafted to enhance your resilience against both physical and mental health symptoms, yoga therapy serves as a recovery and healing modality. Each session is 90 minutes and during this time I will offer a combination of breathing techniques, rescue tools, and relaxation sequences designed to rebalance your nervous system and stress response based on individual needs.

I create a safe and non-judgmental space, where you can openly share your concerns, whether they are rooted in the physical or the mental space, arising in specific circumstances or persisting as a constant state of being. Together, we will explore your goals to help eliminate/reduce/manage symptoms of suffering, improve function and movement, and improve dysfunctional breathing patterns. I will help you to commit to a self-care practice that will facilitate your desired change or acceptance.

The biggest difference between yoga and yoga therapy is that in traditional yoga we focus on the pose, and in yoga therapy, we focus on the individual. We explore using many tools as the dysfunction and suffering could be related to body, mind or breath. We get access to these areas through yoga techniques such as asana, pranayama, mantra, relaxation and connection.

how will the session run?

I ask you to come with an open and curious mind to dive into the experience fully. This is how a typical session first session will be structured:

  • Health intake form discussion (reviewing pre-existing conditions, sleep and mood levels, lifestyle habits and goals/priority areas of concern) (20 minutes 1st session only)

  • Breathing and posture assessment (20 minutes - 1st session only)

  • Relaxation/breathing in a restorative posture (5 minutes)

  • Guided practice with intelligent sequencing to avoid discomfort or injury - I teach what is appropriate for you based on your condition, and desired outcomes (30-40 minutes)

We might use props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, yoga chair, wall, sandbags, eye pillow. All of these will be provided.

  • To see and feel best results, I will share your self-practice sheet so you can continue your daily practice at home.

Lizzie taught me to relax through breathing techniques and yoga. She discussed making time for myself and the importance of prioritising “me time” I found all the sessions inspiring and the difference after one particular session was quite moving. Lizzie is professional in her approach and has a kind, caring manner. She is genuinely interested in helping , I feel she has a real talent and aptitude for yoga therapy.

  • SJ

Lizzie continually checked in with me during sessions, to help me assess what felt good, and what helped ease my back, hand and hip issues. I therefore felt fully involved in the process. Lizzie communicated clearly with me about how the therapy would work. I felt that she approached each session with a genuine concern for my well-being, coupled with a friendly and professional manner.

I want to emphasise how much I've appreciated the focus on meditation, the gentler movements and the breath work throughout our sessions. I'm happy to report that I haven't experienced any panic attacks recently, and I attribute much of this improvement to the meditation practices you've recommended.
